Charles C “Pete” Spooner

Athol – Charles C. “Pete” Spooner, 75, of 828 South Royalston Road died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.      He was born in Gardner, Massachusetts December 20, 1935, the son of Harold and Doris (Hunt) Spooner.  He grew up and lived in Athol all of his life, attending Athol schools.      Pete worked as a mechanic for many years at Gauthier’s in Barre, Clark’s Garage in Athol and for Harvard Forest in Petersham for over 20 years until his retirement.        Pete had a great appreciation for the environment and animals.  Most of his retirement years were spent caring for his animals and on his tractor maintaining his farm land.      Pete was a family man, being very proud of his three sons, and took great pride in his nine grandchildren.      His wife of 26 years, Joan (Noyes) Spooner died in 1991.  He leaves his three sons; Craig S. Spooner and his girlfriend Linda, and Kevin C. Spooner and his wife Jennifer, both of Athol and Keith A. Spooner and his wife Becky of Minerva, NY; nine grandchildren, Meagan, Jillian, KC, Lauren, Delia, Adrian, Naomi, Elliot and Natalie.  He also leaves a brother, Roger Spooner of Athol; two sisters, Gertrude Petrowicz of East Swanzey, NH, and Louise Dugan of Arden, NC; his in-laws, Richard Bailey and his wife Barbara of Orange and a brother-in-law, Donald Noyes of New Salem.      Graveside services will be held Friday, March 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Highland Cemetery in Athol with the Rev. Dana Witty of Orange, officiating. There are no calling hours and in lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Pete’s name be made to: Friend’s of the Harvard Forest, 324 North Main Street, Peteraham, MA  01366.  Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, MA is directing arrangements. $(document).ready(function(){ });
