ATHOL - Addison M. "Bob" Warren, 88, of 763 Lenox St., Athol, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 in the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on October 17, 1920, the son of the late John and the late Laura (Barker) Warren.
Bob grew up in Dedham, MA where he loved to play sports with his seven siblings. At the age of seventeen he enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II in the South Pacific on Angowa, Palow and New Caledonia. During his service he received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Service Star. After his military service he worked for the Conservation Corp. Bob later worked as Superintendent of the Parks, Cemetery, and Tree Departments for the Town of Athol for many years.
He was an avid golfer and won several championships at Ellinwood County Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 102, and was the past President of the Athol Boosters Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a little league coach for the Athol Lions Club team from 1958 to 1960 when they won the Pennant. Bob and his wife Lorraine enjoyed spending many winters together in Florida and many summers at Sebago Lake in Maine.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Lorraine S. (Roussel) Warren; one daughter, Jeanne Rowe and her husband Fred of Naples, FL; three sons, Robert Warren of Bernardston, MA, William Warren and his wife Veronica of Athol, John Warren and his wife Sally of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; one sister, Frances Drake of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; one brother, Shez Warren of Sharon, MA; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery in Athol.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Chuck Stone Little League, P.O. Box 625, Athol, MA 01331.
