ATHOL – Adelard D. Ares, 80 of Athol, passed away peacefully Friday, December 4, 2020 at home. Del was born on August 14, 1940 in Athol to the late Adelard A. Ares and the late Rita (Chaisson) Ares. He grew up in Athol and attended Athol High School. He is a Veteran having served as a Navy Seaman from 1960 - 1962. Del worked as a steel worker for the former Union Twist Drill in Athol for over 20 years; he was also an Athol Call Firefighter for 25 years. He then retired from the Templeton Developmental Center after 20 years. Del enjoyed spending time with family and friends and his love of collecting music lead to many themed house parties enjoyed by so many. Fishing was another passion spent with his buddies and a tradition passed down to his son, Chad who has become an avid fisherman himself. Del is survived by his loving wife of 49 years: Nancy A. (Deveney) Ares of Athol, one son: Chad Ares and his wife Sarah of Orange; two grandchildren: Rylee and Lexi; a special niece Shannan Beaton, nephew Thomas Davis and many more nieces and nephews. Besides his parents; Del was predeceased by his six siblings. Calling hours will be held December 13, 2020, from 2 pm to 4 pm in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange. All those attending are required to wear masks.
Memorial Service will be held at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon on December 14, 2020 at 10:00 am. Outside standing room only.
