It is with great sadness that we announce Adelia Christie Ashton, 78 years old, of Gardner, MA passed away on May 17, 2023, with her family by her side.
Adelia, better known as Chris, was born May 14, 1945 to the Rev. Benjamin and Mrs. Anne Ashton. Chris was born in Monticello, New York. Her father was a clergyman, and was called to several churches, so she moved 4 times before graduating from Watervliet High School, Watervliet, New York.
After high school, Chris attended Putman Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing in Bennington, Vermont. She was employed by Heywood Hospital for 40 years, most of those years on the Pediatrics Unit.
In her free time she enjoyed traveling with family, knitting beautiful blankets, doing jigsaw puzzles, colleting stamps from around the world, and was an avid reader, including her well worn Bible that she read daily. Her very favorite activity was just spending time with her family.
Chris was unique in this day and age, as she never uttered a swear word. Chris remained until the end, very loyal to her family and friends.
Chris was predeceased by her parents, the Reverend Benjamin and Mrs. Anne (Donnelly) Ashton and her brother in law, Edward H. Stevens.
She is survived by her sister, Alexandria (Sandy) Stevens, her nephews Wayne Stevens of Gardner, MA Gary (Lori) Stevens of Rindge, NH a niece Julie (Shane) Allen of Hyannis, MA, two great nieces, Ashley Stevens, Alexandria Allen, a great nephew Joshua Stevens, many cousins, and her two cats, Missy and Dixie.
