ATHOL - Aime J. Rousseau, 92, of 424 Lenox St., Athol, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 in the Life Care Center of Leominster.
He was born in Southbridge on January 5, 1917, the son of the late Anselme and the late Jeannette (Lavigne) Rousseau.
Mr. Rousseau grew up in South Royalston and lived in Canada for a brief period when he was a child. He attended school in South Royalston and was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church. He was a carpenter for the Granger Construction Company of Worcester for many years. He had previously worked for the Belden Construction Company in Athol. He enjoyed woodworking, and created many family heirlooms over the years for his loved ones.
He leaves one son, Dennis Rousseau and his wife Karen of Leominster; two daughters, Carol Jerris and her husband Alan of Mendham Township, NJ, Sally Szemela and her husband Stan of Lewiston, ME; six grandchildren, Nicole Rousseau of Wellesley, Ann Rousseau of Lowdonville, NY, Robyn Benton and her husband Peter of Gladstone, NJ, Randon Jerris and his wife Kate of Branchburg, NJ, Matthew Szemela of Brooklyn, NY, Kacie Szemela of Boston; five great-grandchildren, Maria Benton, Julia Benton, both of Gladstone, NJ, Noah Jerris, Hope Jerris, Benjamin Jerris, all of Branchburg, NJ; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Anna A. Rousseau, who died August 22, 2000, and by his seven brothers and seven sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Those attending the funeral Mass are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church Building Fund, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
