Alan E. Hooley Athol – Alan E. Hooley, 86, of 821 Daniel Shays Highway, died Monday, December 03, 2012 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.      Alan was born in Newbiggen, England, October 25, 1926, the son of Cyril and Anne (MacDonald) Hooley.  He grew up in Leicester, England, attending Gateway School for his pre-college studies.  He graduated from Leicester University as a Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science Degree and from McGill University in Montreal, Canada with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.  Besides living in England he had also lived in Canada, Beverly, MA, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Phillipston, MA where he moved in 1986 and since 2001 has resided in Athol.        Alan worked for the United Shoe Machine Company in England, Canada and the United States, working in the main office in Boston.  He later went to work for the L.S. Starrett Company and became general manager of Inter Precision Bench Works in Orange for several years.  In 1986 he and Suzanne (Dunbar) Hooley purchased the Fox Run Restaurant in Phillipston operating it until 2001.   While living in England he enjoyed playing Rugger.        His former wife Rose (Epstein) Hooley died in 2012.  He leaves two daughters; Katherine Gillespie of Oakville, Ontario and Alyson Hooley of Berwick, Nova Scotia; two grandchildren, Joelle Therriault of Toronto and Melissa (Therriault) Zaramella of Brazil; a great granddaughter, Parker Rose Pirso and a sister, Eileen Evans of Doynton Bristol, England.  He was also predeceased by four brothers and his companion of 27 years Suzanne (Dunbar) Hooley Lees who died in 2011.        A memorial service will be held Thursday December 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Quabbin Valley Healthcare, 821 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol with the Rev. Dr. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor, pastor of the Athol Congregational Church officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.  Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol is directing arrangements.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to: www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com.   $(document).ready(function(){ });
