ATHOL - Alan Plotkin, 52 of 168 Northern Ave., Athol, died of squamous cell carcinoma Sunday, November 26, 2006 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Alan was born in Athol, October 17, 1954. He attended Athol schools and New Mexico Highlands University. He worked at the Radio Shack store in Athol, but his life was devoted to his music. Over the years he played keyboard with the Al Plotkin Band, The Vultures, The Dave Rivers Band, Dezign Band, and Catamount Band. His band opened for Grand Funk Railroad and Three Dog Night in Webster.
Knowing his death was near, he arranged for a vacation in May 2005 in Las Vegas with his sister and four brothers. One month before the end, he and Charlene spent 10 days in Disney World. Sepetmeber 1st, he played in the Tool Town Live summer concert at Fish Park. Just last Saturday night he played his last gig with his band at the Meadows in Turners Falls.
He leaves his parents Charles and Natalie (Steinberg) Plotkin of Del Ray Beach, FL; one sister, Abby Plotkin of New York, NY; four brothers, Jeffrey Plotkin and his wife Deborah of Athol, Bruce Plotkin and his wife Debra of Denver, CO, John Plotkin and his wife Karen of Deerfield, and Michael Plotkin of Sandwich; his former wife, Terry Allain of Gardner; his companion, Charlene Swindell of Greenfield; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2006, at 10:00 am in Temple Israel, 107 Walnut Street, Athol. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA.
The family will receive visitors at the home of Jeffrey and Deborah Plotkin 329 Pinedale Road, Athol on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to The Alan Plotkin Music Scholarship Fund c/o Athol-Royalston Regional High School, 2313 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.
