WINCHENDON- Alan J. “AJ” Poirier Jr., 43, of Winchendon, died tragically on Monday, October 9, 2017 in an ATV accident.
He was born in Framingham, on January 30, 1974, son of Alan and Sharon (Driscoll) Poirier of Gardner, MA.
AJ graduated from Gardner High School with the class of 1992. He also attended Mount Wachusett Community College.
AJ was employed by North Central Correctional Institution as a Correctional Officer in Gardner, MA. Previous to that, AJ worked at People's Fuel.
In addition to his parents he leaves behind his beloved children, three daughters, Kylee Boice (20), stationed in the U.S. Air Force, Julia (12), Isabella (10); a son Kason (10) Poirier, all of Holden and Winchendon; his former wife and the mother of their children, Amanda Caruso of Holden; he also leaves two sisters, Nicole (Poirier) Sullivan and her husband, Brian of Westminster, and Amy (Poirier) Nutting and her husband, Shawn of Leominster; paternal grandmother, Marjorie A. Sokolowski of Gardner; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his dear friend and cousin, Adam Poirier of Gardner.
Among AJ’s favorite activities was following New England sports teams, spending time on the water in his boat, and riding his motorcycle. By far and above, however, AJ was most happy when he was with his children. They truly were the greatest joy of his life.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Lamoureux-Smith & Poliks Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
