GARDNER - Albert A. Chartier, 82, of 136 Leo Drive, Gardner, died Saturday, May 29, 2010 at home after an illness.
He was born in Chicopee on February 23, 1928, the son of the late Louis and the late Alda (Brousseau) Chartier.
Mr. Chartier was a lifelong resident of Gardner and attended local schools. He served during World War II in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. Mr. Chartier worked for the Thayer Company in Gardner and he retired from Modern Contract Furniture several years ago. Albert was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Gardner. He was a proud past Commander of the Gardner V.F.W. and a member of AARP.
He leaves his wife of sixty years, Eleanor M. (Ambroze) Chartier; two daughters, Louise M. Chartier of Gardner, Lisa B. Kane and her husband Paul James Kane of Templeton; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Albert was predeceased by two brothers, Ben Chartier and Gerald Chartier.
Private funeral services and burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. No calling hours will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, and Attn: Contribution Services, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
