ATHOL - Albert J. Duguay, 77, a life-long resident of Athol, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, comforted by friends in Lutheran HealthCare Center, Worcester.
He was born in Athol on August 15, 1930, the 11th child of the late Ulderic and the late Sara (Cormier) (Duguay) Robichaud.
Al became a member of the U.S. Navy (1951-1955) and enjoyed touring the Mediterranean. He settled in Athol where he married Dorothy Ann (MacGregor) Girardi of Gardner. Al was a machinist at the former Union Twist Drill for 22 years and prior to that he worked in the Athol Shoe Shop.
His life was spent enjoying time with his family and friends, with many nights of socializing and dancing. He enjoyed carpentry and masonry projects around his home and helping his family. He was a former member of Knights of Columbus, Pequoig Bowmen's Club, Athol Rod and Gun Club, and Ellinwood Country Club. During his life he was an avid outdoorsman and spent many of his days fishing.
Al's life continues to be celebrated by his three children, Michelle Spraske and her husband Ron of Petersham, Danielle Painchaud of Petersham, and Jay Duguay and his wife Jean of Keene, NH; five grandchildren whom he loved very much and was active in their lives, Sara Simms, Amanda Duguay, Tye Duguay, Andrea Painchaud, and Janine Painchaud; two brothers, Norman Duguay of Georgia, and Virgil Duguay of Athol; three sisters, Bertha Alliot, Rita Rivers, and Noella Boutelle, all of Athol; also several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, George Duguay and William Duguay; and by two sisters, Bella Goupil and Rena Duguay.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. Burial will be private at a later date.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Lutheran Healthcare, 26 Harvard St., Worcester, MA 01609.
