Albert B. Strojni

Albert B. Strojni Athol – Albert B. Strojni, 78, of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, died Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Fitchburg.      Al was born in Josephine, Pennsylvania, June 11, 1934, the son of Albert J. and Mary (Tkac) Strojni.   He grew up in Josephine, graduating from Blairsville High School in 1952 and was the youngest of seven children.  He began his career as an aircraft controller at Fairchild Aircraft Engine in Maryland.  Al served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and then continued to work in different departments of the U.S. Government for a total of 37 years.    He worked for the Immigration and Naturalization Department, Health Education and Welfare Department, and the Department of Defense.        Al retired in 1992 and started his own lawn mowing business which was called a Cut Above the Rest.  He was known as the lawn man during this time.  Al enjoyed camping, bowling, and especially spending time with his granddaughter Diana.  He also enjoyed meeting new people and would carry on a conversation with anyone.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and has resided in Athol for the past 15 years.      He leaves his wife of 26  years, Mary E. (Colgan) Strojni; a son Michael Strojni of Warrenton, VA; a daughter, Yvette White of Hudson, NH; two grandchildren, Diana Kelley of Athol and Jimmy White of Hudson, NH.  He also leaves his dog Rusty and his cat Rover.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Probst) Strojni on October 11, 1979.      A Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with the Rev.
