ATHOL-Albino M. Salkauskas, 88, of 484 Vine Street, died Monday, January 6, 2003 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, following a brief illness. He leaves three brothers, Joseph Salkaus and his wife Nellie of Worcester; Alphonse Salkaus and his wife Agatha of Athol; and Peter Salkaus and his wife Aldona of Athol; a sister, Anna Andriliunas and her husband Andy of Poquoson, Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Helen Girardi, who died in 1997, and a brother Edward Salkaus, who died in 1992.
He was born in Athol, May 15, 1914, son of Michael and Anna M. (Yuoconis) Salkauskas, and was a lifelong resident of town, and attended Athol schools.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a private first class from November 19, 1942 until February 10, 1946.
Mr. Salkauskas was employed at the L. S. Starrett Company for 27 years, retiring in 1977 from Department 20. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church where he served as an usher for many years; and a lifetime member of the American-Lithuanian Naturalization Club. He was a beloved uncle, and in his younger years, he was an avid bowler.
The funeral will be held Thursday from the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 105 Main Street. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass Thursday.
