ATHOL - Alfred A. Bennett, 96 formerly of 67 Fern St., Athol, died Friday, September 12, 2008 in the Leo LaChance Nursing Home, Gardner.
He was born in Athol, on July 11, 1912, the son of the late Jonas P. and the late Amilya (Bayarunaicia) Bendinckas.
He grew up in Athol and attended Athol Schools. He served with the Army Occupation forces in Europe after WWII. He was a life member of Lithuanian Club. He worked at McElwain Shoe Company for over 20 years. He later worked for the Massachusetts Construction Company and helped build Athol Memorial Hospital. He single handedly built the Alpine Club Restaurant on Royalston Rd. in Athol. His enjoyed collecting coins and rocks.
He leaves one daughter: Barbara Pralinsky of Athol, and one son: Robert A. Bennett of Punta Gorda, FL; one stepdaughter: Betty J. Hastings of Milwaukee, WI; stepson: Edward D. Domina of Athol; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle (Sweet) Bennett; his three sisters: Pauline Kavalunas, Stephanie Bedford, and Anna Ambrose; his stepdaughter: Carol A. Richardson.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 10:00 am in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 9 - 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17 in the funeral home.
