ATHOL - Alfred A. LaFlamme, 93, died Monday, May 9, 2022 at the Applewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Winchester, N.H.
Al was born in Littleton, NH on June 23, 1928, a son of the late Alfred and Rose Marie (Carter) LaFlamme. Al lived in Athol most of his life.
Al was predeceased by his former wife Rose (Giannone) LaFlamme; a son Robert LaFlamme; two brothers Wilfred and Charles LaFlamme; two sisters, Eleanor Blanchard and Laura Parsons.
He leaves his daughter, Susan Britt and her husband Ernest of Athol; a sister, Lorraine Hitt and her husband Walter of NC; two granddaughters, Angela Gilmore and her husband Matt, Sarah Munnis and her husband Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Cole Littlewood, Justin Littlewood, Debra LaFlamme, Dawn LaFlamme and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves two step-daughters, Camille Giannone and Fran Beatty “Rose’s daughters); and from his previous marriage to Dot LaFlamme, Donna Chalifoux, Bonnie Durling, Penny Soderman, Sharon Sawin and Brenda Reed.
He served in the US Navy, during World War II, serving aboard two aircraft carriers in the Atlantic. He was honorably discharged on August 26, 1946. He worked at L.S. Starrett Company for nine years, retiring in 1985. He previously worked for Eastern Furniture Co for 27 years.
He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church; the Edward H. Phillips American Legion Post # 102; a life member of the Roy L. Boyce VFW Post #650; a life member of the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks #1837 and a life member of the American Lithuanian Naturalization Club.
He enjoyed dancing, which Al said “ I’m going honky tonking” and traveling to casinos.
Al also loved spending many winters in Florida and residing there after meeting and marrying the love of his life Rose.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 11:00 in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Salvation Army, 107 Ridge Avenue, Athol, MA 01331.
