GARDNER – Alice A. (Gallant) (Bastarache) Campbell, 72 of Gardner, MA was called home by her Heavenly Father on Sunday morning, May 19, 2019. She passed away peacefully while at home with her son Paul at her side after her courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Alice was born on September 18, 1946 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada to the late Benoit Gallant and the late Marion (Richard) Gallant. She was the 11th born of their 13 children. In 1962, while at the age of 16, Alice, along with brothers Robert, Albert, and John moved to Gardner, MA with their parents, where they embarked on a new and uncertain life journey in a foreign land. She was especially proud of becoming a United States Citizen.
Alice worked alongside her husband, Paul, within their business, Campbell Realty Trust. She and Paul shared 35 years of marriage until his passing in September, 2013.
Alice was devoted to, found peace within, and loved with her Christian faith. She was a communicant at Sacred Heart Church of Gardner, where she served as a Minister of the Eucharist and altar server. She, her husband, son, Paul, and brother-in-law George Campbell embarked on many trips to Italy, with her dear friends Eileen George of Meet the Father Ministry, and Dr. Cheryl Nygard, and family, which they enjoyed tremendously.
Alice was generous and caring, and was predeceased by her brother-in-law, George A. Campbell, who passed away in 2011. Alice, along with her husband, and son, Paul, cared for George for 30 years in their home. He had become disabled due to a traumatic brain injury as a result of an ATV accident while he lived in Maine. Her selfless act of kindness and devotion to family allowed George to maintain his dignity while he enjoyed a relatively normal, productive, and full life until his passing.
Alice was a wonderfully devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved, and was especially proud of, her three sons and daughters-in-law who also loved her dearly. She leaves Michael J. and his wife, Julie A. (Feltmarch) Campbell and Paul M.J. Campbell all of Gardner, James R. and his wife, Dr. Debra (Latour) Campbell of Woodstock, Connecticut.
She was especially fond of her five beautiful grandchildren; Michael and Marcus Campbell of Gardner and Hunter, Paige, and Ethan Campbell of Woodstock, Connecticut and is missed by them. Alice cherished every moment that she had with her family.
Alice leaves her five sisters Lorraine LeBlanc (late Euclide), Annette and her husband Paul Belliveau, Julia and her husband Clarence Gaudet, all of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, Lucia Tobin, Patricia and her husband Larry Mifsed, all of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She leaves her three brothers, John Gallant of Fitchburg, MA, Robert Gallant of Rancho Bernardo, CA and Albert Gallant of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. She also leaves dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Claudia Boudreau (Leonard) of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, and brothers Edgard Gallant, and Omer Gallant, also of Canada. Sadly, a brother Frank Gallant (Gene) of Haute-Aboujagane, New Brunswick, Canada passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019.
She leaves many long-time dear friends, especially Nancy Yellen, Sue Beaudreault, Jeff and Roxanne Hermanson, Lee Gagne and family, and Michael Moriarty. Many cherished friends predeceased her.
She will be laid to rest with her husband Paul, and his brother George, who were war veterans and served our country overseas during the Vietnam Conflict.
