Alice V. (Cavanaugh) Murphy, 82, of 159 Pequoig Ave., Athol, formerly of Worcester, died Sunday in Athol Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Wallkill, New York September 13, 1920, daughter of the late William H. and Ethel (Dobbs) Cavanaugh and lived in Worcester most of her adult life. She moved to Athol in 1985. She was employed with Worcester Memorial Hospital in Worcester for many years prior to her retirement. Her husband, Thomas A. Murphy died in 1954.
Alice enjoyed playing BINGO and knitting but was most proud of her family, spending as much time as she could with them.
She is survived by two sons, William T. Murphy of Oxford and Thomas A. Murphy of Rochdale; three daughters, M. Romayne Anderson of Lake Worth, Florida, A. Theresa "Tess" Madelle of Charlton and M. Catherine Geyster of Athol; 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol, Wednesday, May 14, at 11AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, West Brookfield. A calling hour will be held at the funeral home from 10-11 AM Wednesday.
