MARLBOROUGH – The sisters of the Assumption mourn the loss of Sr. Alice Parent, 88 formerly known as Sr. Saint Gerard, who passed away at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlboro, Ma on Monday, January 25, 2016.
She was a native of Chicopee, MA, the daughter of the late Louis and the late Alda (Suprenant) Parent. She was the sixth child in a family of ten children.
Sr. Alice entered the Congregation fo the Sisters of the Assumption in January of 1946. Following her profession in 1948, she served in the ministry of education in parochial schools, as a teacher, principal and librarian in Southbridge, Salem, Lowell, and Petersham, MA and Bristol, CT for forty three years. She also served as an administrative secretary at St. Joseph Parish in Waltham, MA where she was a wonderful presence and tutor amongst the Haitian Community. She spent for years in Rocky Creek Village in Tampa, FL as a volunteer. For the past three years she resided at the Marie Esther Health Center in Marlboro, MA.
Sr. Alice leaves one brother: Gerard Parent of Chicopee, MA.; three sisters: Jullette Quenneville of South Hadley, MA, Cecile Longhman of Chicopee, MA, Marcelle Parent of New York, NY; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, the Sisters of the Assumption worldwide and the Sisters of St. Anne and Staff in Marlboro, MA.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 29th from 2 - 4 p.m. closing with a Prayer Service at the Sisters of St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Rd., Marlboro, MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 30th at 10:00 am in the chapel of the Sisters of St. Anne in Marlboro. Sr. Alice will be laid to rest in the East Street Cemetery, Petersham, MA.
