Alice D. Robichaud

April 5, 1932 — July 19, 2016

ATHOL - Alice D. Robichaud, 84, died peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2016 surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of Larry A. Robichaud, and loving mother of five children, Mark and his wife Jeanette Robichaud, Lisa and her husband Bruce Alford, Donna and Kurt Svetaka, Janet and her husband Rick Marble, Marta and her husband Henry Nover. She also leaves 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren who adored her. Born in Gardner, MA, Alice was the daughter of Joseph R. and Olive (Henchey) Linehan and was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Robert and an infant sister Janet. Alice graduated from Athol High School in 1949 and attended Becker Junior College in Worcester, MA. Alice and Larry were married for 65 years during which time they lived in Athol and Melbourne Beach, Florida. After raising the children, Alice worked at The First National Bank and Athol Fuel Service. Larry and Alice loved their retirement in Florida and while there, Alice volunteered at the Melbourne Beach Public Library critiquing literature and books. Her favorite childhood memories were of time spent in Deerfield and Conway, Massachusetts riding draft horses on the local farms. She often spoke of visits with Archibald McLeish, Librarian of Congress, who helped inspire her lifelong love for poetry and books. Alice passed on her love of the natural environment to her children and spent her remaining years enjoying adventures throughout the natural landscapes in the central Massachusetts area. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 110 New Athol Road, Orange. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made in her memory to the Athol Hospital “Fulfilling Our Promise” capital campaign, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
