GARDNER - Alice Elizabeth (Shaw) Pacocha, 93, a lifelong resident of Gardner passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2013.
She was the daughter of Charles R. and Grace Shaw. Alice was a 1937 graduate of Gardner High School.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for Attorneys Hoban and Moore and also worked at Goodnow Pearson’s. Alice retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1984 after several years’ service at Gardner State Hospital and The Fernald School.
Alice was a communicant of Holy Spirit Parish and a generous supporter of local and national charities. She was a member of AARP and the Gardner Golden Agers.
Alice was predeceased in 2006 by her husband Chester Pacocha. They were married for 66 years, raising five sons and traveling extensively in their retirement years. Alice’s sister, Eleanor Yankowski, passed in 2009. She was also predeceased by a brother, Bernard Shaw, who died in early childhood.
Alice is survived by her sons James and wife Carole of Hudson, NH, William and wife Nancy of Lanesboro, MA, David, of Gardner, Stephen and wife Lois of Lakeworth, FL, and Thomas of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by her grandchildren James Pacocha, Leanne McInerney, Lisa Hooper, Ryan Pacocha, Valerie Gray, Karen Mazzini, William Pacocha, Sarah Preheim, Beth Jodice, and Erin Simmons and their families. She leaves 20 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour will be held Monday, February 18, 2013 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner, MA.
Memorial donations may be made in Alice’s name to House of Peace and Education, 20Barthel Ave., Gardner, MA 01440.
