Allan R. Connolly (born April 12, 1948 in Amesbury, MA) was the eldest child of Jeremiah W. Connolly Jr. and Joan Connolly (ne¢e Joan Mooers). In his youth, he enjoyed fishing and hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. In 1966, he graduated from Haverhill High School in Haverhill, MA. Allan received his draft notice at the age of 17 and soon after graduating high school, Allan volunteered to serve in the U.S. Air Force. He served 5 years of active duty and many years in the Air National Guard eventually attaining the rank of Staff Sargent. Most of his time in the service was spent in Asia and the Pacific Islands (including: Vietnam, Taiwan, Guam, Okinawa, Korea, and the Philippines).
While serving in Taiwan, he met and married his wife May (ne¢e Hwey May Lee). In 1971, he, his wife, and infant daughter Rebecca returned to Haverhill, MA and using the GI bill, he studied respiratory therapy at Northern Essex Community College. Allan and his mother Joan graduated together with their Associates Degrees. A few years later, Allan’s family grew in size with the addition of his son, Bryan, into the family. Allan worked as a respiratory therapist for many years in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. He was ultimately promoted to the position of Chief Respiratory Therapist. Allan and his family eventually settled in Rutland, VT. While living in Rutland, Allan shifted careers and worked for the electric utility company, Central Vermont Public Service, for 28 years. He retired from his position of Director of the Power Supply Department and after retirement he moved to Petersham, Massachusetts to be closer to his family.
After a 12 year battle with Parkinson’s disease, Allan succumbed to complications of this disease on January 2, 2015. He is survived by his wife May Connolly of Petersham, MA, his daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Shawn Legare and their children Nathan and Ally of Petersham, MA, his son and daughter-in-law Bryan Connolly and Diane Dorfer and their children William and Cordelia of Mansfield Center, CT, sister and brother-in-law Lisa and Charles Naimo of Lunenburg, MA, and his brother Jeremiah “Jay” Connolly of New Hampshire.
Allan was a caring father, husband, grandfather and friend. He was active in his church and community…. Allan will be missed by all.
The memorial service for Allan will be held at the Orthodox Congregational Church of Petersham located at 21 North Main Street, Petersham, MA at 2 PM Saturday on January 10, 2015.
