ASHBURNHAM - Alyce J. (Cychol) Prentice, 103, of 55 Center Street, Ashburnham, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Heywood Hospital in Gardner. She was born in Gardner on January 7, 1907, the daughter of the late Paul and the late Pauline (Wiski) Cychol. Mrs. Prentice grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School. She was a homemaker for most of her life and worked as a secretary in Southbridge many years ago. Alyce had resided in Ashburnham for over sixty-four years. She was Ashburnham's oldest resident since 2007 and was awarded with the "Golden Cane". Mrs. Prentice was a member of St. Anne's Church in South Ashburnham and a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Gardner. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading and was a fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. She leaves several nieces and nephews, including Cleo Fredette and his wife Carol of Chelmsford; and great nephews, Jason Fredette and his wife Kathleen of Lowell, Matthew Fredette of Chelmsford. She was predeceased by her husband of forty-six years, Albert W. Prentice, in 1991; by three brothers, John Cychol, Joseph Cychol, and Alex Cychol; and by her sister, Lillian Fredette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant Street, Gardner. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant Street, Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440. $(document).ready(function(){ });
