Alyce Jayne (Ray) Newell

ATHOL - Alyce Jayne Newell, age 68, of Athol died peacefully Thursday, May 15, 2014 at home following an illness. She was born on September 2, 1945 in Athol, the daughter of the late Lynwood H and the late Alice R (Stone) Ray.  She was proud to be baptized a christian by Rev. Mark Bariloni of  the Athol-Orange Baptist Church. Jayne grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1964. She lived in Maine for over 20 years before returning to Athol.  While in Maine she worked as a maid at the Bethel Inn and various other jobs. She is survived by two sons: Michael R Newell of Maine, Thomas J Newell of Maine;  two sisters, Glenda Beeler of Athol, Bonnie Marcotte of Florida; two brothers, Lynwood Ray of Florida, Robert Ray of Athol; three grandchildren, Nathan, Noah and Brooke Newell of Maine,  and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters Donna Murphy-Green who died in 2000 and Elizabeth Ann Ross who died in 1982. The funeral will be held  on Wednesday 5/21/2014 at 3 PM at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange with Rev. Mark Bariloni officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday  5/21/2014, from 2 to 3 PM with a memorial service to follow at 3 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the American Lung Association, 393 Maple Street, Springfield, MA 01105.
