Alysha Marina Rentas, 24, of Athol, died on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.
She was born in Lowell, MA, on March 7, 1997, and is the daughter of Norali Barker. Alysha grew up in Athol, where she lived with her grandparents, Julio and Carmen Rentas, whom she considered a second mother.
Alysha was a senior at Lasell University, where she studied forensic science and was a member of Lasell’s varsity women’s volleyball team. She was a 2015 graduate of Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School in Orange. She took pride in mentoring high school students from districts with limited access to Advanced Placement courses and helped guide these promising students in college-level studies and career exploration.
Alysha was very dedicated to reaching her goals. While attending college, she held two jobs, working for Market Basket in the Customer Service department and waitressing at Kelly’s Diner.
Alysha was a very loving, beautiful, and friendly person and had a love for animals. She was the best daughter, granddaughter, cousin, friend.
In addition to her grandmother Carmen, Alysha is survived by her mother, Norali, and her husband Steve Barker, her two brothers, Kenneth Rentas and Julian Osborne; one uncle: Norman Storer and his wife Unique; her aunts, Josefa Faria and Annette, and many cousins and friends. Alysha will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 2:00 PM. in the
Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange. A calling hour will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM before the service.
