GARDNER - Andrew C. Soucy 92 of 33 Waterview Dr. Gardner, formally of 1352 Main St. in Leominster died Monday, April 11, 2016 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
He was born July 30, 1923 in Leominster the son of the late Arthur J. Soucy and Elizabeth (Phelan) Soucy and lived in Leominster for many years before moving to Gardner.
He leaves his wife: Lorraine Margaret (Bonin) Soucy of Gardner; his children: Mark A Soucy of Lunenburg and Pamela Marie Trainque and her husband Roland of Lunenburg; two grandsons Jarrod Trainque and his partner any Annie Hard of Somerville, Adam Trainque and his partner Nicole Chico of New Orleans, Louisiana.
His first wife Patricia (Langlais) Soucy died in 1979. He was also predeceased by his son: Steven A. Soucy, brothers: Ernest Soucy, Arthur Soucy; and sisters: Elizabeth Gallagher Soucy and Agnes (Mason, McRell) Soucy.
Mr. Soucy retired from General Electric Corporation after 25 years of faithful service in 1984. He also worked at Hartnet Tanning Company in Ayer, MA for 17 years. He served in the United States Navy for 25 years retiring as a Machine Repairman. He served aboard ship and saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War II. It was during his time aboard ship, that his ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat, was then repaired and was sent to the Pacific Theatre of Operation. His ship participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. It was later used to evacuate Allied POWs from the Japanese seaports.
Andrew is a charter member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Leominster and was Past Grand Knight of the Leominster Knights of Columbus post 406.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster, MA. Burial with full military honors will follow and St Cecilia’s Cemetery Leominster.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 4 to 6 PM at the Simard Funeral Home 14 Walker St. Leominster.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to Beacon Hospice, 36 William Court, Leominster, MA 01453 or to Wachusett Manor, 32 Hospital Hill Road Gardner, MA 01440.
