Angelo Vic Colo

October 15, 1925 — February 1, 2017

Angelo V “Vic” Colo, 92, of Athol died peacefully, Wednesday, February 1 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare. Vic was born in Athol the son of the late Angelo F. Colo and Margherita (Calcari) Colo, who were Italian immigrants. He grew up on cottage St in Athol, where his family had a small neighborhood store. He left high school to enlist in the Air Force near the end of WWII and was stationed at Kessler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi. He later received his GED and graduated with Athol Class of 1952. While home on furlough he became engaged to the true love of his life, Virginia P. Chiasson. They were married in June of 1947 and enjoyed 59 years together. They lived in several locations in Athol including Silver Lake St. and finally settling at Fredette St. in Athol . They enjoyed camping, going to the beach, and getting together with friends. Vic was always the funny man and could always make you laugh with his antics. He was a true gentleman to all and an especially devoted husband to his wife, Ginny, who had Alzheimer’s and who he visited daily at the nursing home for two years until she passed in 2006. He never got over that loss and we rejoice that he has been reunited with her at last! Vic worked for Time Warner Cable for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He was the original “cable guy” and it was estimated at his retirement that he had probably made 6000 cable installations during his career in the Athol/Orange area. Vic was also a member of the National Guard for several years and was a volunteer with the Athol Fire Department for 32 years, retiring as a Captain. While Vic and Ginny were not blessed with any children of their own they loved and enjoyed many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many neighborhood children who will remember them fondly. Vic was predeceased by 7 hours, by his brother, H Thomas Colo of Athol, and sister-in-law Marie (Sienkiewicz) Colo, and a sister Mary Colo of Athol. He leaves nieces Christina (Colo) Hunt and her husband George, of Orange, Ma, Andrea (Colo) Plaskiewicz and her husband Devin, of Surry, NH, a nephew, Christopher Colo, of Orange, a sister-in-law, Helen Chiasson, and niece Linda “Cookie” (Chiasson) Gibeault and husband, Bill of Ballston Spa, NY and niece Penney (Chiasson) DAscoli, of Gaffney, SC and a nephew Wayne Chiasson of New Mexico and several grand nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday February 8, 2017 at 10 AM in Our Lady Immaculate Church 192 School St. Athol.
