Ann M. (Wincuinas) Murphy, 87, of Athol, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 peacefully in her sleep at home. She was born in Athol, on March 24, 1919, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Piepol) Wincuinas. She grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1936. Ann married Leo F. Murphy on January 10, 1942 and enjoyed 42 years of marriage as she was predeceased by Leo in 1983. Mrs. Murphy worked for the U.S. Navy during World War II in Washington D.C. Locally she worked with William G. Lord who authored the History of Athol and she worked for many years as a secretary for the Honorable C. Edward Rowe. She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. Ann enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, traveling, and especially enjoyed time spent with her family and her friends. Most recently she attended the wedding of her granddaughter in Vermont and earlier this spring enjoyed a first class trip to Las Vegas in celebration of her 87th birthday. She leaves one daughter, Kathleen A. Townsend and her husband Carl of Springfield, MA; one son, Peter A. Murphy and his wife Irene of Athol; one sister, Millie Grogan of Athol; one brother, Edward Austin of Northhampton, MA; five grandchildren, Jessica Townsend of Cambridge, Peter Townsend of Dublin, Ireland, Dianna Townsend of Laguna Beach, CA, Gabriel Murphy of Athol, Meghan Fournier of Warwick; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held Monday, November 27, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home 137 Main St., Athol. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to VNA of Greater Gardner Hospice 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440. $(document).ready(function(){ });
