LEOMINSTER - Anna M. (Stacy) Legere, 77, of Leominster, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at The Highlands in Fitchburg, surrounded by family and friends.
The family extends a very special "Thank you" to everyone at the Highlands for taking such wonderful care of Anna.
Anna was born on September 15, 1931 in Leominster, and was the daughter of Nelson and Eva (Goguen) Stacy.
She grew up in Leominster and graduated from Leominster High School. She married Fred J. Legere on May 29, 1954. Anna was more than a babysitter to many neighborhood children. She taught them lessons that they carried into their adult lives: share, play fair, be gentle, don't hit people, don't take things that aren't yours, say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Anna was a member of St. Cecilia's Church in Leominster. She was a talented crafter of handmade items, and knitted hundreds of mittens for the children in her life and also donated them to St. Cecilia's Holiday Fair. Friends and family were the recipients of her crocheted slippers and hand-tied quilts, too. Anna was thought of by her loved ones as being "small of stature, big of heart".
She leaves her husband, three sons, Ronald Legere of Leominster, David Legere of Templeton, Richard Legere of Leominster. She also leaved four granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brothers Norman Stacy, Edgar Stacy, Hector Stacy, and Bobby Stacy, and by her sisters, Rita Altobelli and Doris Whitby.
Funeral services and burial will be private and there are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Elephant Project, P.O. Box 488, Tallman, NY 10982 or on www.theelephantproject.org, which raises money for Alzheimer's disease.
