Anna M. Millen

PHILLIPSTON - Anna M. (Lawrence) Millen, 86, of 85 Brooks Village Rd., Phillipston, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at home. She was born in Winchendon on January 29, 1923, the daughter of the late Rodney and the late Pauline (Rogstad) Lawrence. She was raised and educated in Winchendon and moved to Athol in the 1940s. She worked as a florist for the former Ledge's Flower Shop in Athol, and as a waitress for the former Maroni's Restaurant in Athol. She had worked as an assembler for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company for ten years, until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Phillipston Congregational Church and the Ladies Benevolent Society. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening in her spare time. She enjoyed painting, knitting and puzzles. She leaves one daughter, Judy Holliday of Silver City, New Mexico; two sons, Bruce Millen of Phillipston, Robert Millen and his wife Wendy of Athol; two sisters, Esther Richardson of Maryland, Ruth Richards of Baldwinville; two brothers, Bill Lawrence and his wife Elmina of Winchendon, Clarence "Sonny" Lawrence and his wife Joyce of Florida; nine grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Millen on March 5, 1977; also by her long-time companion, Leopold "Pete" Fontaine in October of 1988; by her former husband, John R. Millen in 1988; by her brother, Roger Lawrence, and by her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Harris. Memorial services will be held Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. Burial will follow in Lower Cemetery of Phillipston. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 26, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
