ATHOL - Anne M. (DeSantis) West, 91, of 62 Exchange St., Athol, died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol, surrounded by her family. She was born in Athol, on March 16, 1916, the daughter of the late Louis and the late Elizabeth (Palumbo) DeSantis. She grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. She studied hairdressing at Elizabeth Ollis Beauty Culture and graduated in 1937. Mrs. West owned and operated DeSantis Beauty Salon on Exchange St. for 60 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church, and enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her loving family. She leaves one daughter, Elizabeth Collins and her husband David of Athol; two sisters, Helena Stangvilla of Athol, and Elia Chibas of Tewksbury; one grandson, Arnel Collins of Orange; two great grandchildren, Bryton Collins and Landon Collins, and also many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis C. West in 1997; and by three sisters, Serena DeSantis, Mary Oakes, and Ida Scavo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to American Cancer Society's New England Division Office, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, or to Quabbin Valley Healthcare Activity Fund, 821 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, MA 01331.
