Antena A. Gale

ATHOL-Antena A. (Kanash) Gale, 86, of 481 Brooks Road, died Monday in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, following a brief illness. Her husband, Herbert Gale, died in 1994. Born in Athol, June 29, 1915, daughter of Anthony and Pauline (Aidikonis) Kanash, she had lived here most of her life. She had lived nine years in Charlotte, North Carolina before returning to Athol in 1995. She graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1934. Mrs. Gale was employed by the L. S. Starrett Company for 25 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and its former Women's Guild, the Athol Golden Agers, and the AARP. She enjoyed traveling extensively. She leaves a brother, Albert Kanash of Athol; a nephew, Bruce Kanash of Millers Falls; and one grandniece and two grandnephews. The funeral will be held Thursday from the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 105 Main Street. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. A calling period will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
