Anthony J. "Oscar" Mierzejewski

GARDNER - Anthony J. "Oscar" Mierzejewski, 87 formerly of 71 Jean St., Gardner, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, in the Leo P. LaChance Center, Gardner. He was born in Gardner, on January 17, 1920, the son of the late Ignacy and the late Kazmiera (Antczak) Mierzejewski. He grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School. He attended Worcester Boys Trade School. Mr. Mierzejewski was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with three stars and the American Area ribbon. He was onboard the USS Missouri when the peace treaty to end World War II was signed. He was employed in the shipping department of the former C.H. Hartshorn Company and also worked for the former Frank Smith Silver Shop of Gardner. Oscar was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a life-time member of the Gardner Fish and Gun Club, a member of the Gardner V.F.W. Post #905 and a member of the Gardner Golden Agers. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed making his own flies and lures. He leaves one daughter, Sheila R Beauregard and her husband Doug of Ashburnham; one son, Bruce A. Mierzejewski and his wife Carol of Gardner; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Rita (Brideau) Mierzejewski who died in 1996 and by a brother, Stephen Mierzejewski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 166 Cross St., Gardner. Burial will be in St. John´s Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours will be held Friday from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home 431 Pleasant St., Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, 6th Floor, NY, NY 10006.
