GARDNER - Antoinette H. (Shablawa) Goodwin, 93 formerly of 112 Emerald Street, Gardner, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner. She was born in Gardner, on March 10, 1915, the daughter of the late Anthony and the late Anastazia (Chebota) Shablawa. Antoinette grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School in 1933. She worked at the Old Mill Restaurant in Westminster until her retirement in 1980. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She was active in the Polish Women's Political Club. She leaves one son, Robert B. Goodwin and his wife Mary of Ashby; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carolyn Young who died in 1997 and by her sister, Rose S. Borkowski who died in 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 11:00 am in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant Street, Gardner. Burial in St. John's Cemetery will be in the spring. A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home 431 Pleasant St., Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Joseph's Church 358 Pleasant Street, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the Activity Department of Wachusett Manor Nursing Home 32 Hospital Road, Gardner, MA 01440.
