LEOMINSTER- Armand G. Murray, 95, of Leominster, passed away Monday, June 2, in Sterling Village after an illness.
Armand was born September 15, 1919, in Shirley, the 12th of 15 children of the late Richard and Alexina (L’Ecuyer) Murray. He attended St. Anthony School in Shirley. He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Parish. During WWII, he was stationed with the 8th Air Force in England. Armand was a member of the Franco-American War Veterans, St. Jean the Baptiste, the Assumption, and the Leominster Senior Center where he played cards every morning before his illness. He loved to read and made beautiful latch hooks that were given to family members. He would also look forward to family gatherings Sunday nights to play cards. In his early years, he spent time at the Whalom Roller Skating Rink and at dancing areas which he loved.
He received the Mayor’s Senior Community Service Award in 2007 for volunteering at the Leominster Senior Center.
Armand worked 23 years at Falulah Paper Company in Fitchburg until the plant closed in 1970. He then worked at Union Products until his retirement. He also worked part time at Plastican after his retirement. When he was at the paper mill, he also worked part time at St. Boniface Church in Maintenance.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Rita B. (Tatro) Murray; his daughter, Sandra M. Carman of Pawtucket, RI; three grandchildren, Benjamin R. Carman and his wife, Lisa of Pawtucket, RI, Amanda B. Carman of Taunton, Jessica Chaves and her husband, Derek of Cumberland, RI; seven great grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel, Nicole, Jordan, and Jackson Carman, Tyanna Silva and Giavanna Pariseau; four godchildren, Robert Murray of NY, Kathy Twichell of Leominster, who was like a daughter to him, Patti Devlin of PA, and Mark Coulter of TX; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Ronald G. Murray in 1971, his brothers, Richard Murray, Edmond Morais, Albert Murray, and Arthur Murray, and his sisters, Marie Santini, Elizabeth Pelote, Louise Begnoche, Catherine Coulter, and Pauline Hayes.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to the staff at CBOC at Burbank Hospital, especially Jeanne Cuskey and Tracy Tierney, to the staff at Hematology at Burbank Hospital for their wonderful care during his illness, Jane Beauchemin for all her accommodations, Richard Vautour for all his services, and to the staff at Sterling Village.
The funeral will be held Friday, June 5, from Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. in St. Cecilia’s Church, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial and Military honors will be rendered following the Mass in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery.
