LEOMINSTER - Arthur Ray LaPlume, 84 of 228 West St., Leominster, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Lifecare Center, Leominster, after an illness.
He was born in Leominster, on January 6, 1924, the son of the late Dolphis and the late Eva (Martin) LaPlume and was a lifelong Leominster resident.
He leaves his wife: Elizabeth (Bernard) LaPlume of Westminster; one daughter: Lisa Walsh and husband Brian of Leominster; one son: Kevin McGee and wife Judy of Leominster; one sister: Louise Lemoine of Leominster; two grandchildren: Shannon and Matthew Walsh of Leominster; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers: George LaPlume and Francis LaPlume of Leominster and four sisters: Alice LaPlume of Leominster, Rita Chapman of Worcester, Jeannette LaPlume of Leominster, Claire Carter of Leominster and Lorraine Bracket of Worcester predeceased him.
Mr. LaPlume was a member of St. Cecilia's Church in Leominster. He worked for Mohawk Wire and Cable Company in Leominster for over 20 years retiring in 1992. He enjoyed reading, puzzles and played a variety of musical instruments.
He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was inducted into the armed services on December 7, 1948 and was Honorably discharged on October 12, 1954, attaining the rank of Private First Class. He served as a cannoneer during his military service.
The Funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from the Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster with an 11a.m. Mass in St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Cecilia's Cemetery.
Calling hours in the funeral home are scheduled for Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
