BARBARA A. (BATES) "KAI" ROY
ATHOL-Barbara A. (Bates) "Kai" Roy, 47, of 56 High Street, died Thursday in Athol Memorial Hospital, after being stricken ill at home. She leaves her husband of 26 years, Robert R. Roy; two children, Rachel Roy and Robert Roy II, at home; two sisters-in-law, Anita Bevis of Athol and Karen Roy of Gardner; two brothers-in-law, Richard Roy, Jr. of Emmaus, Pennsylvania, and Ronald Roy of Athol; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Eva Roy of Athol; and several nieces and nephews.
She was born in Fort Dix, New Jersey, Sept. 3, 1955, daughter of the late Marshall and Dorothy (Ollie) Bates. She had lived in Athol since 1992.
Mrs. Roy was an Air Force veteran, and served in Vietnam from 1973 until 1974. In 1977 she entered the Army, and was stationed in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1981. She received her Bachelor's Degree in History from Fitchburg State College. A seamstress, she enjoyed sewing and crafts. She especially enjoyed her dogs.
The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held Monday, Sept. 30, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main Street. Rev. Stephen D. Johnson, pastor of Our Lady Immaculate Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours in the funeral home are 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
