Barbara L. Marquis

ATHOL - Barbara (Valley) Marquis 83 passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving family on February 24, 2016. She was born on July 13, 1932 in Athol, the daughter of the late Edward and Evelyn Valley. She was a lifelong resident of Athol and was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Edward Marquis Sr. who passed in 2006. Barbara attended Athol schools and graduated in 1951. She was employed by the L.S. Starrett Company for many years. She is survived by her children; Edward Jr. and his partner Ronda Foster of Snellville Georgia; Diane Praplaski and her husband Jim of Phillipston; Cynthia Kaczmarczyk and her husband Dan of Athol; Audrey Thompson of Orange; Jane Giroux and her husband Russell of Alburgh Vermont and Leo and his wife Trudy of Apopka Florida; long time family friend Jeff Thompson; her four siblings; Rachel and Peter Vitello of Orange City Florida; Richard Valley of Athol; Corrine and Steve Ramsey of Wasilla Alaska, Linda and Don Knapp of Athol; eleven grandchildren, Jimmy Praplaski and his wife Lindsay of Malden; Jason Praplaski of Phillipston; Jessica Pineyro and her husband Joe of Baldwinville; Laura Wall and her husband Kyle of Oklahoma; Kyle Kaczmarczyk of Gardner; Nicole Latique , Jacques Giroux and Jacqueline O’Leary and her husband Jason all of Vermont.; Nathan and Justin Thompson of Orange, Jared Marquis of Florida; six great grandchildren; Olivia and Joey Pineyro of Baldwinville; Ty’Rell, Ja’Rell, Ma’Kell Latique of Vermont and Ivan Giroux of Vermont; as well as several nieces and nephews. Barbara enjoyed playing cards, bingo and going to the casinos. She also enjoyed spending time with her 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed vacations in Salisbury, Myrtle Beach, Oregon and Florida with family and friends. She loved her friends and the staff at Applewood and enjoyed giving them a hard time. She had a great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 in the funeral home.
