Bernard "Shaw" LePoer

PETERSHAM - Bernard “Shaw” LePoer, Jr., 91, Petersham, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester, MA. He was born in Petersham, on October 31, 1924, the son of the late Bernard and the late Myrtle (Barnes) Coolidge LePoer. He grew up in Petersham, attending the Petersham Center School (where he met his wife Annie in 1st grade) and graduated from Petersham High School. Shaw was a Gunner on the "Witchcraft" in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a machinist for many years working for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company. He was a selectman for the Town of Petersham for 3 years and was a member of the Unitarian Church of Petersham. He loved cutting wood, music, snowmobiling, gatherings with family and friends, and mystery shows on TV. He also loved watching the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox and doing crossword puzzles. He leaves his wife of 70 years: Annie (Mitchell) LePoer; two sons: Scott LePoer and his wife Linda of Princeton, MA, Shawn LePoer and his wife Julie of Athol, MA; four grandchildren: Sarah LePoer, Annie LePoer, Gavin LePoer and Emily Mallette; three great grandchildren: Peri E. Miarecki, Jesse Mallette and Tyler Mallette; one brother: John LePoer of Spencer; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathy Ballou; three brothers: Earl Coolidge, Calvin Coolidge, Roger Coolidge; four sisters: Grace Barnes, May MacDonnell, Myrtle "Pix" King, and Marion Russell. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Relay for Life of Gardner, c/o American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Rd., Holyoke, MA 01040. A collation will be held in Petersham following the memorial service.
