WEST BROOKFIELD – Bernard A. O’Rourke, 89, of West Brookfield formerly of Gardner died Tuesday, December 04, 2012 in Worcester.
He was born on January 17, 1923 in Baldwinville the son of William and Florence (Boucher) O’Rourke. He was a resident of Gardner for over thirty years before moving to North Brookfield in 1995.
Bernie worked for the former People’s Fuel for many years he retired in 1986. He was Past Commander of the Gardner VFW Post No. 905 and also a life member and Past Commander of the Lt. Roger P. Warfield America Legion Post #373; and a member of the Gardner Lodge of Elks and a member of the Deep Sea Club.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. While serving in Belgium he met his wife and they married in Belgium and moved back to the United States.
He leaves a son, Michael P. O’Rourke of Boston; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Genevieve (Van De Veegaete) O’Rourke who died in 1991; by his daughter, Maureen A. Spencer; by two sons George O’Rourke and John E. O’Rourke and by his close friend, Shirley Howe who died in 2007.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
