BARRE - Bertha N. (Urban) Greene, 86 of 344 Pleasant St., Barre, died Tuesday, November 28, 2006, in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol. She was born in Ware, on April 2, 1920, the daughter of the late John and the late Antonia (Anulis) Urban. Family and friends mourn the loss of Bertha, who was a generous source of music, laughter, and local family histories, and always a friend in need. Her cooking was legendary, and her welcome was sincere. Bertha once said that "every day you do something for someone else is a good day." Bertha worked until her retirement for Charles G. Allen Company in Barre. She is survived by her son Benjamin F. Greene III of Athol, her daughter Joyce E. Greene of New York, and their spouses Cheryl Jefferson and Tom Stroyls, by her grandsons David Greene of Easthampton and Jesse French of Boylston, and by her niece Phyllis Dwelly of Barre; her nephew Paul Urban of Hardwick; her nephew John Green of Orange; her niece Sharon Giuffre of Athol and by her nephew Brad Green of Athol. She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin F. Greene, Jr.; by her daughter, Janis French; by her brother, John Urban and by two grandsons, Jason and Daniel Greene. Calling hours will be held Thursday, November 30, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol, MA. Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bertha's memory to the Anne Marie Cancer Fund c/o Marilyn Skerry West Street, Barre, MA 01005.
