ATHOL - Beverly M. (Mundell) Hains, 84, of 1142 Chestnut St., Athol, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 in the Leo LaChance Nursing Home, Gardner, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brookfield on December 14, 1924, the daughter of the late Alfred S. and the late Gladys (Kendall) Mundell. She moved to Athol at a young age and has resided here for most of her life. She attended local schools, including the former Highland School. She worked at the former McElwen Shoe Company for many years, then was a waitress at Maroni's restaurant for over 30 years. Mrs. Hains was employed more recently as a clerk at the Athol Bake Shop until its closing. She was a member of the Athol Congregational Church, and enjoyed spending time at the Athol Senior Center. She also enjoyed bowling and playing bingo. She leaves three daughters, Judith Barboza of Lincoln, ME, Cynthia Robinson and her husband Mac of Athol, Gladys Falkner and her husband Jody of Athol; five sons, Robert Barboza of Athol, Frank Hains and his wife Lottie of Orange, John Hains and his companion Linda Murphy of Fitchburg, Timothy Hains and his wife Lynn of Gardner, Richard Hains of Athol; one sister, Charlotte Whitely of Lincoln, ME; two brothers, John Mundell and his wife Beverly of Athol, George Mundell and his wife Carol of Idaho; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Lawrence E. Hains who died in 1990, by five brothers, Harry Mundell, Donald Mundell, Alfred Mundell, Jr., James Mundell, Richard Mundell; and by three sisters, Virginia Bjorson, Blanche White, Lois Masterson, and Harriet Mundell. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Highland Cemetery, Highland Ave., Athol. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut St., Athol, MA 01331.
