FITCHBURG – Boyd A. Mirovich, 73 of Fitchburg, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 at UMASS Medical Center, Lake Ave, Worcester.
He was born December 21, 1942 in Gallitzin, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Evelyn
(Skelly) Mirovich.
Boyd was a member of the Gallitzin Joint High School Class of 1960. He attended Worcester Center for Crafts and graduated in 1998. He also taught there for a short time. He was a Boilerman for 4 years in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a stationary fireman at General Electric and Health Alliance, and worked as a mechanic at Mason's Bowling Center. He enjoyed wood crafting, model trains and woodwork. He was a member of the American Legion Post 174 and the Italian Mutual Society in Gallitzin, PA.
He leaves his wife of 50 years: Betty M. (Quinn) Mirovich of Fitchburg, children: Stephanie Rondeau of Athol, Dr. Sharon Mirovich of Leominster, Rachel Vallan and her husband Barry of Mendon, MA; grandchildren: Elizabeth and Julia Rondeau, Quinn P. Vallan; siblings: Geraldine Stevens of Gallitzin, PA, Myrna Swope and her husband Edward of Altoona, PA; and a special nephew Robert Tutko of Gallitzin, PA.
He was predeceased by his siblings: Rose Anna Maruska and her husband George, Ronald Mirovich and his wife Mary Jean Beck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11:30 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 84 Salem St. Fitchburg. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm in the Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster, MA 01453.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the ACS Gardner Relay for Life, 43 Nagog Park, Suite 110, Acton, MA 01720, to the attention of “Friends for Hope”.
