Brian B. Whittier Athol – Brian B. Whittier, 52, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at the UMASS Memorial Medical Center-University Campus in Worcester following an illness.      He was born in Athol, Massachusetts, May 18, 1959, the son of Courtland M. and Janice M. (Soucie) Whittier.  Brian grew up in New Salem, Orange and Athol where he also attended schools.      Brian worked as a carpenter and roofer all of his life doing all types of building, roofing and barn restoration.  He worked for several contractors throughout New England.  He enjoyed going to the ocean, spending time outdoors, but most especially loved spending time with his family.      He leaves two sons; Kyle Whittier of Warwick and Christopher Whittier of Athol; a daughter, Maranda Whittier of Orange; three grandchildren, Anthony and Aidan Barilone and Kaleigh Whittier; his parents, Courtland M. Whittier of New Salem and Janice M. Whittier of Athol; two brothers, Bruce Whittier of New Salem and Robert Whittier of Orange and three sisters, Debra May Blair of Dublin, NH, Brenda Pomainville and Dawna Turner, both of Athol. He also leaves an uncle, William Soucie and an aunt, Nancy Torchia, both of Athol and several nieces, nephews and cousins.      Graveside services will be held Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Silver Lake Cemetery (upper entrance off Horrigan Ave.).  A gathering will be held at the Orange American Legion on Daniel Shays Highway in Orange following the service.  Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol is directing arrangements.  For more information or to share a memory with the family go to: www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ });
