Brook C. Davis

June 3, 1961 — March 9, 2016

ATHOL-Brook Clarke Davis, 54, of Athol, died in his home on Wednesday March 9 after an illness. A loving and devoted father and grandfather, he was present at every school and sporting event, and recital. He coached many of his children’s sporting leagues. Brook leaves a son, Brandon Clarke Davis of Athol, and two daughters, Sarah Lucia Davis and Rachel Elizabeth Davis, both of Gardner. He also leaves eight grandchildren whom he adored and was present during every single one of their births – Davin Zachary Ojala, Jaden Christopher Davis, Kaios Clarke Kislus, Autumn Rae Davis, Haylie Lucia Rae Davis, Lily Ellen Cronin, Gabriel Liam Cronin, and Piper Elizabeth Kislus. Born in Concord, MA, on June 3, 1961, the son of the late Ford C. Dennis of Orange, FL, and Patricia E. Davis of W. Groton, MA, he also leaves a sister, Dawn Boynton and her husband David Boynton, of Shirley MA, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many close friends. Brook was truly gifted with many interests, hobbies and passions. He wrote beautiful poignant poetry, and loved the great outdoors --fishing, camping, and hiking. He also enjoyed canoeing and looked forward to participating in the annual Athol-Orange River Rat Race, sometimes with his children. He was a great cook, and each Thanksgiving, would bake pies and deliver them to the homeless shelter. He was a self-taught computer whiz and ran his own online bulletin board service in the early 90s. An avid organic and companion planting gardener, he taught his children how to grow plants for food, beauty, and enjoyment. As a child, he spent his summers at the family camp on Lake Armington in Piermont NH, where he became an active member of the Appalachian Trail Hiking Club. In high school he ran cross-country and won the 3rd place medal. He loved to bowl 10 pin, and over the years belonged to various bowling leagues. He was a member of the APA (American Pool Players Association) and played pool with his team, coming in first place, winning a trip to Vegas to compete in a tournament where they placed 65 out of 480 teams – something he was very proud of. During his career, he held various roles as retail assistant store manager and manager, worked in a concrete batch plant, sold real estate, waited and bartended, and worked with the disabled. Above all else, his children and grandchildren were the most important part of his life. He was happiest spending time with them. Whether it was taking them trick-or-treating, Christmas Eve, birthday parties, cooking a meal, or teaching them so many things, he brought love, joy, playfulness and laughter. Many of his children’s friends would call him “Dad,” and he was famous for his giant “bear hugs.” He will be so deeply and sorely missed by many. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 18, 4pm at the Athol Amer-Lithuanian Club, 365 South Street, Athol, MA 01331.
