ATHOL - Bruce N. Boccardy, 86 of 309 Fredette St., Athol, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at home.
He was born in Quebec, Canada on April 5, 1921, the son of the late Michael and the late Helen (Delgarde) Boccardy.
He grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps.
He was employed at the L.S. Starrett Company for over forty-four years. He graduated from the Starrett Tool Makers Course and retired in 1983 from the Level Division.
He served on the Finance Committee for the Town of Athol, the Athol Traffic Safety Committee, the Athol Recreation Committee and the Athol Police Building Committee.
He was a member of the Athol Knights of Columbus where he was past grand knight; a member of the Athol American Legion Post No. 102. He supervised YMCA basketball, vollyball and softball leagues for many years.
He was also active as a manger for Athol Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball for many years. He was an avid sports fan and he spent many years wintering in his home in Vero Beach, Florida.
He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church.
He leaves two sons, Steven J.K. Boccardy of Royalston; Bruce T. Boccardy of Boston; one sister, Grace Roche of Athol; one brother, Theo Boccardy of Gainsville, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Irene J. (Sylwestrak) Boccardy who died January 15, 2007.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 11:00 am in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
