Calvin W. Cook
Athol – Calvin W. Cook, 89, of 265 Beacon Street, died Friday, January 10, 2014 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester.
Calvin was born in Athol, Massachusetts, October 22, 1924, the son of Willard and Hazel (Abare) Cook. He grew up and has lived in Athol all of his life, attending Athol High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Calvin worked on construction projects as a grade foreman all of his life, being a member of the Laborer’s International Union of North America, local number 39. He worked on the building of route 2, the Portsmouth Circle, Bear Swamp and many other projects throughout New England.
He always enjoyed having a project going and did many home remodeling projects with his two sons. He most especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and many pets.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Angelina M. (Casella) Cook; four children, Susan Perry and Kent Moreau of Fitchburg, Greg Cook of Enfield, Ct, Rick Cook of Athol and Candy Parker and her husband Peter of Athol; three grandchildren, Nicole and Michael Perry and Anthony Sheffield; a brother, Joseph Cook of Saco, ME and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Taylor, Brad and Douglas Cook.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol with the Rev. Fr. Krzysztof Korcz, pastor officiating (those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to church). Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery and calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 14th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Calvin’s name be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. For further information or to share a memory with the family go to:
