Carlton B. Adams Athol – Carlton B. Adams, 89, of 701 Silver Lake Street, died Monday, February 27, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.      Carlton was born May 29, 1922 in Athol, the son of Ernest and Leontine (Rolland) Adams.  He grew up and has lived in Athol all of his life, graduating from Athol High School in 1940.  He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving aboard Liberty Ships which were convoys that carried cargo across the North Atlantic to England and France to support the troops.        Carlton worked at the former Union Twist Drill for 43 years, retiring in 1984 as Chief Shop Steward, also holding many other offices during his career.        He was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, lifetime member of the D.A.V., enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, carpentry and all types of woodworking.  He was a member of Local Union # UE 276, and was co-founder of the Pequoig Bowmen’s Club.  At the age of ten, Carlton was a proud member of the American Legion, Drum and Bugle Corp.  Carlton was one who could accomplish most anything with his hands from building his own home, and repairs of any type from fine carving to woodworking.  He and his wife enjoyed and loved their many pets throughout the years.  They cherished camping with the family in their trailers and motor homes throughout New England and down the East Coast.        He leaves his wife of 69 years, Marion L. (Durkee) Adams; a son, Larry Adams and his wife Judy of Wrentham; two daughters, Karen Chesley and her husband Alfred of Chesterfield, NH and Judy Luzzi and her husband Tony of Sterling; five grandchildren, Lisa, Brad, Jill, Jason and Christopher; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Alfred Adams.        A graveside service will be held at Silver Lake Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Carlton’s name to:  the Athol Animal Shelter, “for the care of animals”,  c/o of Athol Police Dept., 280 Exchange St., Athol, MA  01331.
