Carol Marie (Grover) Smith

Carol M. Smith Orange – Carol Marie (Grover) Smith, 57 of 21 Memorial Drive, died Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Farren Care Center in Montague surrounded by her loving family.      Carol was born in Athol, Massachusetts, February 1, 1954, the daughter of William and Honor (Calkins) Grover.  She grew up in Athol, graduating from Athol High School in 1972 and since 1976 has resided in Orange.     Carol dearly loved her family, attending all her children’s activities and sports. She directed the ORA Youth cheerleading at the Butterfield School in Orange for eight years. Carol loved her pets, her dogs Ginger and Jack, her cats, Tammy, Mitsy, Rusty, Oscar, Dusty Doolittle and Gray Kitty. She enjoyed shopping, especially in Keene, NH with her husband and dining out at her favorite Friendly’s Restaurant.  Carol loved her home, especially decorating for every season throughout the year. Carol enjoyed tag sales and flea markets, shopping for antiques and crafts for her home and always enjoyed summer camping vacations with her family at Long Lake, Maine.      She leaves her husband of 38 years, Rodney T. Smith; a son, Matthew S. Smith; a daughter, Melissa S. Dei and her husband Jason of Andover, CT; three grandchildren, Summer, Tyler and Danika, several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by her three sisters, Judy, Barbara and Kelly and a brother, Earl.        Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island Street, Athol with the Rev. Adam Randazzo, pastor officiating.  Burial will follow in Tully Cemetery and calling hours will be held Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Carol’s memory to: Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 8th Ave., Suite 902, New York, NY  10018.
