GARDNER - Carole A. (Mansfield) Rixford, 63, of 153 Lawrence St., Gardner died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at home surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Gardner on April 14, 1945, the daughter of Stanley Mansfield and Charlotte (Benoit) Cramm of Ashburnham. Mrs. Rixford was a former resident of Townsend and has lived in Gardner for ten years. She graduated from Oakmont Regional High School with the Class of 1963, and was a graduate of Henri's School of Hair Design. She worked as a Supervisor at Johnson Creative Arts in Townsend, before retiring due to an illness. She was a member of the Ashburnham American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and crafts. She had a deep love of gardening and quilt making. Besides her mother, Mrs. Rixford also leaves her husband of 42 years, Gehrig D.Rixford of Gardner; one son, Travis S. Rixford and his wife Karen of Ashby; one daughter, Tracy J. Salem and her husband Scott of Gardner; one sister, Barbara Maki and her husband David of Moorpark, CA; four grandchildren, Sean Salem, Thomas Salem, MyKenzie Rixford, and Hunter Rixford; also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly. She had a special fondness for her step father, Ralph W. Cramm, who died December 25, 2004. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. Burial will follow in New Cemetery, Ashburnham. Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 3, 2008, from 5-7 p.m, and on Monday, August 4, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, at the John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Attn: Contribution Services, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
