Carolyn M. Olson

PETERSHAM - Carolyn M. (Nyquist) Olson, 89 of 7 Hardwick Road, Petersham, died Sunday, January 14, 2007, in the Baldwinville Nursing Home. She was born in Worcester, on October 31, 1917, the daughter of the late Peter B. and the late Ellen M. (Stake) Nyquist. She grew up in Worcester and graduated from South High School in 1935. She received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Worcester State College. She was a resident of Petersham for fifty eight years. Mrs. Olson taught third grade for over thirty years, she first taught at Barre Elementary School she then went on to Chaffins School in Holden, several elementary schools in Worcester and retired in 1981 from the Ruggles Lane School in Barre after teaching there twenty-six years. She was a member of the Petersham Orthodox Congregational Church, she was treasurer of the church´s Sunday School program and involved with the Couples Club of the church. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Barre Teachers Association and the Quabbin Retired Teachers Association. She leaves one daughter, Janice M. Olson of Petersham; one sister, Lois Huggins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, David Nyquist of Dolton, IL, Paul Nyquist of Bordentown, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of forty eight years, Earl H. Olson who died in 1992, by her son, Russell Olson who died in 1961, and by a brother, Philip Nyquist who died in 1990. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 19, 2007, at 11:00 am in the Petersham Orthodox Congregational Church, Route 32, Petersham. Burial will follow in East Street Cemetery, Petersham. Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 18, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol.
