Cecelia M. (Beauregard) Carbone

d. March 7, 2015

Cecelia M. (Beauregard) Carbone, 88, died peacefully on March 7th, 2015 at Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner, MA.  Her husband of 48 years, Antonio J. Carbone, died in 1998. She was born in Gardner, the daughter of Ronald E. (Sr.) and Lillian (Shurtliff) Beauregard, and lived at 7 Jackson Street for the majority of her life before residing the past two years at the Binnall House.  She graduated from GHS in 1944 where she was Captain of the Varsity basketball team and a member of the Varsity field hockey team, which was undefeated.   Cecelia also played volleyball.   She leaves her daughter Catherine and her husband John Steiger of Lyndeborough, NH; James and his wife Jenifer of Gardner, MA; Martin and his wife Karen of Phillipston, MA; and John of Winchendon, MA; five grandchildren:  Jennifer, Christopher, Timothy, Jonathan and Alexis; two great grandchildren, Morgan and Antonio; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She was pre-deceased by her son, Robert; her brothers Norman and Ronald (Jr.) Beauregard and sisters Nellie Fournier and Marjorie Smith. After raising her children, Cecelia worked in several businesses located in downtown Gardner.  She retired in 1988 from the Gardner Savings Bank, after having worked there for 17 years. Cecelia loved to garden and used to compete against her brother, Ronald, to see who could grow the best looking gladiolas. Her peonies live on in her childrens' gardens. She was especially fond of her Dogwood tree – a gift from her children for Mother’s Day many years ago.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching the birds on her birdfeeders, playing cards, listening to Big Band music and traveling throughout New England in search of yarn and pottery to add to her ever-growing collections.  Over the years she found knitting, sewing and needlework to be very relaxing and created exceptional cross stitch pictures. Cecelia had a big heart, a wonderful sense of humor and a seemingly endless supply of tissues tucked into her sleeves.  She gave to many charities and had a lifetime supply of return address labels to prove it!  Even during the recent months of failing health she kept her positive attitude.  She often commented on how lucky she was to have had the love of family and dear friends, and was appreciative of the care she received from the Wachusett Manor staff.  She was a treasure and will be in our hearts forever. Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 14, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.  with a Memorial service at 12:30 P.M. in Mack funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. Burial will be at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Cecelia’s name can be made to the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home Activity Fund, 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner, MA  01440 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA  01701. $(document).ready(function(){ });
